Indian Air Force director describes Russian-made S-400 system ‘gamechanger‘
Speaking on Saturday, Singh revealed that Indian forces shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and one airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, with the latter destroyed from a record-breaking range of about 300 kilometers. He said the S-400’s extended kill range prevented Pakistani aircraft from getting close enough to deploy long-range weapons such as glide bombs.
This marks the first time an Indian military official has publicly confirmed the scale of Pakistan’s losses in the operation. Singh also noted damage inflicted on Pakistani airbases, radars, and potentially F-16s undergoing maintenance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has likewise praised the S-400, stating in May that such platforms have given India “unprecedented strength.” The country purchased the system from Russia in 2016 for $5.4 billion, despite US threats of sanctions.
