Indian Premier Reacts to Ukrainian Drone Attack on Putin’s Residence

(MENAFN) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced serious concern following reports from Russia of an attempted Ukrainian drone strike on President Vladimir Putin’s official residence.

According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Kiev launched 91 long-range drones against the residence in the Novgorod Region during the night of December 28–29. Lavrov noted that all unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted, with no casualties or damage recorded.

Modi posted on X in both English and Russian: “Deeply concerned by reports of the targeting of the residence of the President of the Russian Federation. Ongoing diplomatic efforts offer the most viable path toward ending hostilities and achieving peace.”

Earlier the same day, the Chinese Foreign Ministry urged both sides to “avoid further escalation” in response to the incident. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the “reported targeting” of Putin’s residence, declaring on X: “Pakistan expresses its solidarity with the President of the Russian Federation, and with the government and people of Russia.”

Meanwhile, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov told Russian media that during a phone call with Putin on Monday, US President Donald Trump said he was “shocked by this news and expressed outrage, stating that he could not have imagined such crazy actions on the part of Kiev.”
