Indian, Russian Companies Partner to Produce Sukhoi SJ-100 Aircraft
The SJ-100 is a Russian-built regional airliner featuring two engines and a narrow-body design. It is already deployed in commercial operations, with more than 200 aircraft currently flying for 16 carriers around the globe.
As part of the agreement, HAL will obtain authorization to build the aircraft within India for local deployment. India, recognized as one of the fastest-expanding aviation markets worldwide, is expected to require over 200 additional aircraft over the coming ten years to strengthen regional air links.
Back in October, HAL revealed that it had concluded a memorandum of understanding with UAC focused on the manufacturing of civilian commuter versions of the SJ-100.
“The SJ-100 will be a game changer for short-haul connectivity under the UDAN scheme in India,” the state-owned firm stated in an official announcement.
The agreement cements HAL’s responsibility for local certification of the SJ-100 and provides it with production and marketing rights. Meanwhile, UAC will extend engineering guidance, design expertise, and specialized assistance to help modernize and adapt HAL’s manufacturing infrastructure.
