India Denounces Deadly Airstrike on Afghan Hospital
Pakistan has rejected responsibility, claiming its operations targeted only military facilities in Kabul and Nangahar province.
The strike hit Kabul’s 2,000-bed Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital at approximately 9 pm local time, according to Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesman for Afghanistan’s Taliban government, who reported the incident on X.
“India unequivocally condemns Pakistan’s barbaric airstrike on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul on the night of March 16,” the Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“This is a cowardly and unconscionable act of violence that has claimed the lives of a large number of civilians in a facility which can by no means be justified as a military target.”
The statement further accused Pakistan of attempting to “dress up a massacre as a military operation,” labeling the incident as a “heinous act of aggression,” a “blatant assault on Afghanistan’s sovereignty,” and a direct “threat to regional peace and stability.”
The ministry emphasized that the attack occurred during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which made it “all the more reprehensible.”
